  • Letter's to the Editor - should I include the addresses of contributors from the Letter's to the Editor sections. The original documents publish this information. Havings one's address published on the web was not a major consideration when writing a letter to the Carmarthenshire Historian during the 60's and 70's, but Data Protection Law may prohibit the electronic storage (and susequent publishing) of such data without prior consent from the owner. I'm not sure how relevent name's and addresses from the 60's & 70's are today? If you are an expert in this area of the law and are willing to advise then I would very much like to hear from you.
  • Where should the Historian live? The current location is shared with my personal website. I deem this a temporary situation; until such time as the Historian's content is ready to move on. Currently, this site is hosted on a cheap Dell PC, running out of my apartment connected to broadband cable! This kind of thing is fine for my personal website - but hardly the kind of environment suitable for a reliable and fast website. If lots of people start hitting this site, at it's current location, I will almost certainly be shutdown by my ISP. At the moment this does not seem to be an issue - however I have seen my google rankings rise, and with that, more clicks will follow. If you have any ideas regarding alternatives then please drop me a line.
  • Should the Historian be publicly editable. Anyone can edit wikipedia.org (the online encyclopedia). The system relies on peer pressure (and designated Editorial admins, that have the right to remove content, and block certain users from making changes). However, the idea behind using wiki for the Historian is different - I want wiki to be a collaboration vehicle allowing trusted members of the community to participate in getting the online version to a point where it's at least as good as the original booklet form (currently has a lot of scanning errors that need to be corrected). Once it's at this point I'm not sure it should stay on a wiki platform? Although, I've found hyper-linking references within Historian useful (TODO give an example) - so maybe if the Historian is to evolve, wiki is the way to go.

    • Carmarthenshire Community Council
    • Carmarthenshire Community Council, Local History Committee
    • Essay Author - Note: Most of the contributor's are now dead, and even if they weren't I'm sure they wouldn't mind what I've done (I've tried to stay true to the original documents as much as possible). I like to think that the Authors' would have encouraged me (but who knows?). Maybe some of the contributors are, indeed, alive - consulting them might help with deciding what the right thing to do is?
    • Carmathenshire Antiquarian Society
  • Letter's to the Editor - should I include the names and addresses (well, should I include the addresses?) of the contributors? Publishing these on the web was probably not in the minds of the original letter writer - although, how relevent the disclosure of such information after so many decades is a point of debate (although it might be a point of Law - Data Protection).
  • Where should the Historian live? The current location is shared with my personal website. This is a temporary situation; until such time as the Historian's content is ready to move on. To give you an idea of the current budget this thing is running on: hosted on a cheap Dell PC, running out of my apartment connected to broadband cable! This kind of thing is fine for my personal website - hardly the kind of environment suitable for a reliable, fast website potentially being hit by many hundreds of users a day (hope :-)). If lots of people start hitting this site, I will almost certainly be shutdown by my ISP. Ideas/volunteers greatfully received.
