2006 Jan – present: Instinet, London:

 

Arrival Price Rule (Architect/Technical Lead) – Responsible for integrating Northfield Optimizer into Systematic Trading rules.  Risk vs Cost optimization.  Integrated C++ Northfield Optimizer and JESS rules engine using JMS/JNI.  In this role I’ve worked closely with the business lead and our partner Northfield, gathering requirements and ensuring the smooth integration of the optimizer with Instinet’s order management platform.

 

2002 July – 2006 Jan: Instinet, New York:

 

Advertised Trades (Architect/Technical Lead) – I was responsible for analysis, design, implementation, and testing of Instinet’s Advertised Trades initiative (previously the firm had no AT presence).  The following technologies were used: Java/JMS/TIBCO/Rendezvous.

 

IDX (Architect/Technical Lead) – Intra-Day Cross – In a dynamic role I was responsible for mentoring, analysis documentation, architecture vision & J2EE implementation. As the project drew closer to delivery I was responsible for tuning the application to ensure end-to-end performance requirements were met.

 

VWAP Cross (Architect/Technical Lead) – Mentored a legacy team to develop C++, Java, JNI application for crossing equities using a VWAP benchmark. I worked closely with the business lead to ensure key requirements were documented.  In this role I was responsible for project planning.

 

Portal 2 (Developer) – Deployed an Eclipse RCP application using Java WebStart.  Wrote a Plug-in/Feature Ant build script.  Also, reduced the download size of the application.

 

Newport Data Warehouse (Developer) – High-level design of data warehouse for Newport order management system. Evaluated different methodologies for replicating data, including Oracle’s Advanced Replication.

 

2000 Sept – 2002 July: Instinet, London:

 

Audit Trail (Team Lead) – Worked closely with American colleagues documenting requirements for OATS and tape reporting. Responsible for the design and implementation of the application, using Java/JMS/TCP/IP sockets.

 

Market Connectivity (Team Lead) – Led a small team developing connectivity from Newport to Instinet’s SmartRouter. An internal protocol very similar to FIX was used for communication.  Java/JMS/TIBCO Rendezvous.

 

Broker Neutral (Team Lead) Led a small team that integrated Newport with the Bridge Network using FIX (v4.2). Technologies: Java/JMS.

 

MQSeries (Developer) – Evaluated a replacement proposal for Newport’s JMS implementation with IBM’s MQSeries.

 

1999 July – 2000 Sept: Merrill Lynch, London:

 

Merlot (Developer) – Design and implementation of Java portfolio order management system.  Key responsibilities included writing a Swing front end with real-time updates from the server using Corba (Orbix) middle tier.

 

Trading Services (Developer) – Junior developer responsible for integrating (& testing) a C++ front office component to a backend Stratus position management mainframe.

 

1998 March – 1999 July: J&H Marsh & McLennan:

 

Perspective (Analyst Programmer) – Maintenance programmer on Perspective, a risk management application for insurance brokers. Technologies: Visual C++ and Sybase.
